The Diamond Pony is the latest instrument sharpening fixture that is used the same way as the Sharpening Horse or the Stoney Pony. The Diamond Pony is made of stainless steel and coated with a fine diamond abrasive. It is unbreakable, autoclavable and easier to use since it is one piece with angled sides and no additional stone necessary as the fixture itself serves as the abrasive. No water is needed when sharpening on the Diamond Pony. The technique has been tested in an experimental study and shows irrefutable evidence as the most accurate technique for providing a perfect cutting edge while maintaining the original contour of the blade. The technique allows for safe use chairside as the clinician’s hands are not in line with the movement of the blade during sharpening. The kit includes two Teflon test sticks.
