Description

6. Dental Assisting Accreditation Workshop (8 ceu’s ) Friday, July 30, 2027, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM
Course Presenter: Christine Dominick, CDA, RDH, M. Oc. Ed

Christine Dominick will lead you through the accreditation preparation for your site visit. The morning session of the workshop is designed to familiarize Dental Assisting educators with the accreditation process, assist in understanding what is required to write a self-study report, prepare and host a site visit, successfully complete documents and reporting requirements before and after the site visit, and how to use the results of the site visit experience to ensure that their program is always “site-visit ready”. A step by step guide on how to organize and prepare a self-study document is presented that will enable participants to effectively engage their faculty and staff to assist in the accreditation process. Guidelines for conducting a site visit are provided along with suggestions for best practices to ensure a successful site visit will be clearly outlined for the attendees. Updates and changes in the standards are compared with previous accreditation standards to assist attendees in managing what is now expected in the current standards. The afternoon session is devoted to an in-depth discussion of the DA standards 1-6. Suggestions are made and discussed by the instructor and the class on the most effective ways to demonstrate compliance with the Commission on Dental Accreditation Standards for Dental Assisting Education Programs as presented in the DA Self-Study Report. Course participants receive a flash drive that contains documents that serve as templates for creation of exhibits and helpful resources that are in electronic format for each of the standards 1-6. In addition, the exhibits also contain an outcomes assessment matrix, outcomes assessment tools, the Curriculum Management Plan, Radiation Safety Plan, Exposure Control Plan, Medical Emergency Plan, and Quality Assurance Plan. Flash Drives now includes a self-study document for your review to assist you with planning the format of your own school’s document with exhibits as examples to show what might be submitted. This workshop does not guarantee a recommendation free site visit at your school. Those attending this workshop should print out the DH Self-study and bring it with them to the course.
Class limited to 30 participants

A word about our course flash drives and materials.

completing the “How to Teach” subject specific course. This is our policy since ownership of the course flash drive and materials copyright agreement and course certification are proof to CODA that the recipient did indeed attend the methodology classroom session. Having the materials alone could be misconstrued as meeting Standard 3-7 since CODA usually recognizes our course materials and associates them with the face to face instruction that demonstrates compliance with the standard. The materials belong to the college or university that pays the tuition, not the attendee.
